Physical Acoustics’ 1281 family of Intrinsically Safe Acoustic Emission products are built to enable monitoring of valve and pipeline leaks, corrosion, cracks of critical structures, and other critical assets from within hazardous and explosive environments.
The 1281 IS Barrier/Preamplifier Interface provides several functions within an Intrinsically Safe testing system. Its key function is to protect the preamplifier in the hazardous area against surges in input voltage. Additionally, it amplifies the AE signal from the 26 dB intrinsically safe preamplifier with an additional 14 dB, so the signal is conditioned like a standard Physical Acoustics 40 dB preamplifier, to the standard AE amplitude range of 0-100 dBAE. It also provides power to the preamplifier over the coaxial cable (known as phantom power) at 5V DC. Finally, the 1281 IS Barrier/Preamplifier interface can detect AST signals sent from Physical Acoustics’ AE systems, and send the signal to the preamplifier for Automated Sensor Testing (AST).
