SteamPAC™ is a handheld leak detection system that identifies and quantifies through-valve loss of normally-closed steam valves used in power generation. As a power fleet ages, so do the primary components of a plant. This wear leads to valve leaks, which reduce efficiency and increase costs and stack emissions. Continual repair and replacement of components such as isolation, stop valves, vent, and relief valves, is necessary to keep plants operating at optimal efficiency. By “listening” to the turbulence created during expansion of high-pressure liquids and gasses passing through a small opening, SteamPAC™ identifies through-valve gas losses and estimates leak rates. These measurements allow valve maintenance to be prioritized, a critical tool in the financial management of a plant.
