The Ohio DOT has monitored the suspension cables of the Anthony Wayne Bridge in Toledo for more than a year with a 32-channel Acoustic Emission system installed by MISTRAS in June 2011. The next stage of the diagnostic process began in November when the main suspension cable was cut open for visual inspection so MISTRAS personnel from the Toledo lab could evaluate the extent of corrosion and number of wire breaks. The 81-year-old bridge is scheduled to be closed for almost two years starting some time in 2013 or 2014 for a $50 million overhaul.
